Fiorentina forward Mario Gomez will hope to replicate his last performance against Atalanta when the two sides square off in Florence on Sunday.

The Germany international had not scored since November 30 before striking twice against Atalanta in last month's Coppa Italia 3-1 triumph.

That game triggered a good run for Gomez, who hit the back of the net three times in his next two games.

Two of those goals from Gomez handed Fiorentina a 2-0 triumph at Roma on Tuesday to set up a meeting with Juventus in the semi-finals of the Coppa.

"I knew that sooner or later I would rediscover my goalscoring touch," Gomez told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I had been waiting for some time to find my rhythm."

Gomez spent most of last season out with a knee injury and the former Bayern Munich striker struggled with a thigh problem earlier this campaign.

"It was tough for me," the 29-year-old said. "Having been a year on the sidelines, I needed time to recover the strength of my legs and the sharpness that I had before."

Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Montella expects Gomez to make up for lost time.

"He is a great forward, there's no doubt about it," Montella said. "He was lethal against Roma and I know he will be very important to us in the remainder of the season."

Gomez rested in last weekend's 1-1 draw at Genoa that left Fiorentina sixth in the standings.

Fiorentina have not lost at the Artemio Franchi stadium in Serie A since November 9 and take on an Atalanta side who have won just twice on the road this season.

Atalanta travel to Tuscany on the back of last weekend's 2-1 triumph over Cagliari, their fifth win of the campaign.

Coached by Stefano Colantuono, Atalanta have lost just one of their last six league games and are 15th in the standings, five points clear of the drop zone.

Fiorentina's recent signing Mohamed Salah will not make his Serie A debut this weekend.

The Egyptian winger, who joined from Chelsea on loan until the end of the season, has yet to receive his work permit.
