Transfer news: Manchester United sign Salford defender Sadiq El Fitouri

Manchester United have signed right-back Sadiq El Fitouri from Northern Premier League side Salford City on an 18-month contract.

El Fitouri came through the youth ranks at Manchester City before being released by United’s rivals and will now link up with Warren Joyce's U21 squad.

Gary and Phil Neville, along with former United team-mates Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes, each own 10 per cent of the club and brought El Fitouri to the attention of the Reds, who impressed following a week's trial with United.

“Incredible story on Sadiq El Fitouri. Well done to Phil and Scholesy for showing belief in a lad who was out of the game!,” tweeted Gary Neville.

"Phil and Scholesy gave him his Salford City debut just three weeks ago and the boy has signed for United. #dreamscometrue"

Libyan-born El Fitouri, whose brother plays for Burnley, is delighted to sign for United.

"This is honestly a dream come true for me and I have to thank Salford City for the chance, as well as the faith they have shown in me," he told the club’s official website.

"I am really looking forward to what happens next and to be given the opportunity to do so at Manchester United is unbelievable."
