Copa del Rey: Villarreal set up semi-final clash with Barcelona, while Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol also progress

Villarreal booked their place in the Copa del Rey semi-finals with a 2-0 aggregate win over Getafe.

Gerard Moreno scored the only goal of the game on Wednesday night as Marcelino’s side repeated the 1-0 scoreline from the first leg to set up a meeting with Barcelona in the last four.

It’s the first time in the club’s history they have reached the semi-finals of the competition, and they travel to Camp Nou to take on the Catalan giants in the first leg on February 11.

The other two semi-final spots were also up for grabs on Wednesday night, with Athletic Bilbao seeing off Malaga 1-0 to take the aggregate victory after a goalless first leg.

Aritz Aduriz tapped home from six yards out to seal Athletic’s passage into the last four.

Athletic Bilbao beat Malaga and will now face Espanyol in the Copa del Rey semi-finals

Ernesto Valverde’s men will take on Espanyol in the semi-final, after they held off a late charge from Sevilla to make it through.

Diogo scored a stunning strike in the final stages as the hosts looked to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg.

But the visitors held firm and face Bilbao in the last four in a fortnight.
