League One: Scunthorpe surprise MK Dons to draw 1-1

A 77th-minute equaliser from centre-back Kyle McFadzean rescued MK Dons from defeat in a 1-1 draw at fast-improving Scunthorpe.

But despite dominating the game for the opening hour, the visitors could not find the win they needed to go top of League One.

In the early stages, they could not find a way past Scunthorpe's debutant goalkeeper Luke Daniels.

The former West Brom shot-stopper excelled with two fine saves from striker Jonson Clarke-Haris and Dons' highly-rated teenage midfield star Dele Alli.

When Daniels did find himself beaten by a measured header from Alli, he was rescued by the woodwork as the ball brushed the outside of a post.

At the opposite end Scunthorpe, beaten only once in their previous eight league games, failed to muster an effort at goal in the opening half.

It was against the run of play when Scunthorpe broke the deadlock in the 57th minute.

It followed a mistake from Dons goalkeeper Dave Martin as his poor goal-kick gifted away possession and the ball was returned quickly into the box where striker Tom Hopper turned to fire home his second goal in three games following his loan move from Leicester.

Suddenly there was an extra spring in the home side's step and Martin was forced into action again to make a good save from Paddy Madden to stop his side going 2-0 behind.

But Dons were not finished, with Alli and Darren Potter both going close before McFadzean climbed high in a crowded box to head home an equaliser from a corner.

That produced a frenzied finish in which both sides pressed strongly for a winner.
