Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino insists his side will go out to win the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg at Sheffield United, rather than hold onto their slender 1-0 lead in the tie.

Match highlights: Tottenham 1-0 Sheffield United

Pochettino's Spurs overcame the League One side with a 76th-minute penalty from Andros Townsend, but struggled to break the Blades down at White Hart Lane.

And with a full house at Bramall Lane expected on Wednesday, Pochettino wants Spurs to extend their lead, not protect it.

He told Sky Sports: "We're happy for the result because it's 1-0, but we need to go and play the second leg and we need to win again.

"We need to go and be focused and try to win. We expected a very tough game, and it was a tough game."

Pochettino's side only had two attempts on target during the game compared to eight in the 2-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday, but the Argentine manager said that was due to Sheffield United's style of play.

Jan Vertonghen praised a 'well-organised' Sheffield United team

"Sheffield United play very aggressive in the first half and cut every action, played narrow and deep too. It was difficult for us, we don't find the best position to create more chances.

"I think it was a very, very difficult game, but we were aware of that."
