Premier League: Sean Dyche says Burnley were not up to usual standards in defeat to Crystal Palace

Burnley boss Sean Dyche felt his side's performance was not up to scratch as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Dwight Gayle scored a double as resurgent Palace claimed a fine comeback victory at their relegation rivals. The Eagles had been trailing 2-0 after the first 16 minutes when Ben Mee and Danny Ings handed the Clarets a two-goal lead.

But Gayle got the visitors back on track and after a Jason Puncheon equaliser, grabbed his second late on to seal Palace's first win at Turf Moor since August 2003.

Dyche was looking to bounce back from his side's midweek FA Cup replay defeat to Spurs, but defeat left them one place above the bottom three.

We know how difficult it is, we're learning and earning our spurs a little bit and we got a reminder of it today.

"I'm disappointed with the performance," Dyche told Sky Sports. "Results can happen in this division and we know that because we've had all kinds of results so far.

"Our performance was not up to our usual standards today. Even at 2-0, I never felt assured

"We really let in a sloppy goal to let them back in it and then after that it's nip and tuck until we had a good 15 minutes towards the end (of the first half).

"Then they got the goal so it's one of those things – a big learning curve for our players.

"We'll take many lessons (from this defeat). We've taken a lot of lessons already this season. If you're not right on top of your game for every minute of it then you're going to get punished.

"This game underlines just how difficult it is to win in the Premier League. We know how difficult it is, we're learning and earning our spurs a little bit and we got a reminder of it today."
