Scunthorpe have submitted plans for their new £18million 12,000-seater stadium to North Lincolnshire Council planners.

The club hope the new stadium, to be built on the Lincolnshire Lakes development, will be completed by May 2016. The existing site, close to Glanford Park, is currently agricultural land, but recently received outline planning permission for a commercial park for a range of uses. Club chairman Peter Swann said in November that he hoped work on the new stadium would start in March or April. Scunthorpe moved from their original Old Showground home in 1988 following the completion of Glanford Park. It was the first time that an English club had moved to a new purpose-built stadium in 33 years, since Southend's Roots Hall was completed in 1955.
