Fernandinho is remaining positive over Manchester City's Premier League title chances despite them giving up a 2-0 lead to Burnley on Sunday.

City tossed away a two-goal lead after second-half goals from George Boyd and Ashley Barnes earned the visitors a draw at the Etihad.

And despite City failing to close the gap on the Premier League leaders Chelsea, Fernandinho remained positive over City's chances this season.

"It is not a bad result - a bad result is losing,” he said. “We have one point and we will try to win the next game to get the three points.

Chelsea drew, we drew and the Premier League is still open. The race for the title is still open.

"Chelsea drew, we drew and the Premier League is still open. The race for the title is still open.”

After going 2-0 ahead through Fernandinho’s 33rd minute strike, the Premier League champions were on route for their 10th successive win in all competitions – which would have proved to be a new club record.

The Premier League champions dominated possession and created more chances than Sean Dyche's side, but failed to capitalise in the second half and let their lead slip.

Fernandinho, who was on the scoresheet for the first time for his club this season, was at a loss to explain City’s collapse on Sunday.

"I am so happy to score that goal," he said. “But unfortunately it was not enough to help us win the game."

"I don't know exactly what went wrong,” he said. “In the first half we played so well, and created so many chances to score, but in the second half we didn't do it.

"It was a result we didn't expect but it happened. We need to keep heads up and think about the next game. It is not over, there are still a lot of games to play.

"It is too early to decide the title now, and we need to keep playing and winning games, and we will see what will happen."
