Towering Serbian striker Nikola Zigic has secured a work permit and re-joined Birmingham City after a signing a contract to keep him at St Andrew's until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old, who left the club in the summer, still requires a new visa and is not likely to be available for Saturday's trip to Blackpool.

The giant forward, who stands just under 7ft, will now fly to Serbia to have his visa application processed in Belgrade before returning to the UK.

Zigic’s first match under new City manager Gary Rowett is likely to be against Reading on December 13.

Club director Panos Pavlakis said it was a boost to have the Carling Cup winner back at the club.

"We are delighted to have agreed a deal with Nikola and secured a work permit,” Pavlakis told the Birmingham City website.
