Brentford have told Sky Sports News HQ that they are looking into the possibility of ground-sharing or adapting their current ground should they win promotion to the Premier League.

The west London club, who are seeking back-to-back promotions, are currently fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points behind leaders Derby and just one point adrift of the automatic promotion places.

But the Bees know that their Griffin Park stadium does not meet Premier League requirements because they have standing areas at either end of the ground.

Premier League rules state that it must be an all-seater facility and Brentford are already planning ahead should they reach the top tier of the English game.

By the end of next month they must notify both the Premier League and Football League what plans they have for the 2015/16 campaign – should they be promoted.

And Sky Sports reporter Amy Lewis says: “They're looking at whether it's cost effective to adapt Griffin Park and make it all-seater.

“They're also considering ground-sharing with a local club for the next two seasons and I've been told they'd consider stadia not currently used by football clubs and ideally within a five-to-10 mile radius of Griffin Park.”

Regardless of whether Brentford are promoted again this season, they have already made plans to move into a new stadum by the start of 2017/18.

Work is expected to start soon on a 20,000 capacity all-seater stadium at nearby Lionel Road, close to Kew Bridge, for which building permission was granted in March of this year.

Brentford, who finished runners-up in League One last season, have been at Griffin Park since 1904.
