Manchester United climbed into the top four in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory at Arsenal.
It was United's first away win of the season, and they took the lead when the luckless Kieran Gibbs diverted into his own net on 56 minutes. Skipper Wayne Rooney doubled the lead on 85 amd Olivier Giroud's stunning strike deep into injury time was too little, too late for the hosts.
Chelsea earlier extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points with a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.
The game was all over after half an hour at Stamford Bridge. Diego Costa got the Blues up and running just 11 minutes in with a clinical finish, and Eden Hazard added a second on 25. Four minutes later Claudio Yacob was sent off, and there was no way back for the Baggies from there. Second-placed Southampton will try to cut the gap back to four on Monday night against Aston Villa.
Manchester City came from behind to earn a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Swansea. Wilfried Bony put the visitors in front at the Etihad, after just nine minutes, controlling with his chest and firing home. But Stevan Jovetic turned home Jesus Navas’ cross ten minutes later to equalise and Yaya Toure – with just his second league goal of the season – scored what proved to be the winner on 62, powering past two defenders and finishing the job.
Burnley are off the bottom - Danny Ings scored two goals in two minutes as Sean Dyche's men earned their second straight victory, 2-1 at Stoke. Having finally got their first win of the season last time out against Hull, striker Ings scored in the 12th and 13th minutes and although Jonathan Walters pulled one back, the Clarets claimed all three points.
Newcastle maintained their superb recent form with a 1-0 victory over QPR – their sixth straight win - which sees them move up to fifth. Moussa Sissoko grabbed the winner on 78, but there is concern for United defender Ryan Taylor. Making his first Premier League start in two years after a serious knee injury, Taylor hurt the same knee in the first half and limped off – it’s fingers crossed for Taylor on Tyneside as he undergoes a scan in hospital. QPR are now bottom of the table.
Leon Osman celebrated his 400th appearance for the club by scoring the winner as Everton beat West Ham 2-1. Lukaku gave the hosts the lead on 26 but Mauro Zarate levelled on 56 for the Hammers. Osman earned the points on 73, converting Samuel Eto's cross after the referee played an excellent advantage when Lukaku had been fouled.
Leicester and Sunderland cancelled each other out at the King Power, a forgettable game finishing in a 0-0 draw.
Leicester had chances to score through Jeffrey Schlupp and Matt James but the club have gone five consecutive games without hitting the back of the net.
