Andros Townsend has been ruled out of England’s forthcoming internationals against Slovenia and Scotland.

The Tottenham midfielder has returned to White Hart Lane for treatment on a minor ankle injury he sustained with his club.

Townsend, who played and scored against San Marino last month, has struggled with injuries since making an impressive debut at home to Montenegro 13 months ago.

An FA spokesman said: "Andros will leave the England squad and return to his club.

"He reported for duty on Monday with an injury and will go back to Tottenham Hotspur for further treatment.”

The 23-year-old had joined up with Roy Hodgson’s squad on Monday but similar to Manchester United’s Michael Carrick has had to leave the national training squad due to injury.
