Leicester City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare has denied reports suggesting Esteban Cambiasso has been offered fresh terms.

The 34-year-old midfielder arrived at the King Power Stadium over the summer as a free agent following 10 years with Inter Milan.

The Argentine has made an immediate impact in English football, with his vast experience proving invaluable to Premier League new boys Leicester.

It has been suggested that his displays have been so impressive that a one-year extension has been discussed, with a transition into coaching also mooted.

Shakespeare, though, claims to be unaware of such talks, with Cambiasso focused on his playing commitments.

He told the Leicester Mercury: “That is news to me.

“Obviously, to draw on the experience he has got and where he has played would be great. I am not sure whether that is the route Esteban wants to go down.

“We will encourage all our players to take their coaching badges because it gives them an insight.”

Meanwhile, Shakespeare has responded to claims that Manchester United are disappointed at Nick Powell’s lack of playing time during a loan spell at Leicester by announcing that every player – particularly young ones – have to be given time in which to settle and prove their worth.

He added: “He has had to be patient, like a lot of players have had to be.

“Players will say they want a run of five or six games to be judged on. As a coach or manager we will tell them that sometimes we can’t give them that time.”
