The Argentinian limped off in Monday's 2-2 Premier League draw at West Brom casting doubt on his availability for the visit of Jose Mourinho's table-topping side.

But Van Gaal revealed on Friday that the club's record-signing has been training since Thursday in preparation for the clash at Old Trafford this weekend.

No other players are returning from injury for United but midfielder Michael Carrick will play for the reserves against his former club West Ham on Friday evening after five months out.

Van Gaal has also refused to rule out signing Victor Valdes, who is currently training with United.

"Manchester United always has its eyes open," said the Dutchman.
