Hartlepool have appointed former midfielder Paul Murray as manager of the Sky Bet League 2 club.

Pools parted company with Colin Cooper at the start of the month following a dismal start to the season and Sam Collins has been in caretaker charge for the last four games.

But Hartlepool have now moved to bring in Murray, who played for the north east club between 2010 and 2013, with experienced coach Willie Donachie as his No 2 and Collins remaining as assistant first/reserve-team coach.

Pools are currently second from bottom in the table having won just three games all season and with a goal difference of minus 14.

Murray leaves his role as youth-team coach at Oldham and will take charge of Saturday's league game at Cambridge.
