Chelsea striker Loic Remy is hopeful of being fit for the weekend game at Manchester United despite suffering a groin problem in the Champions League win over Maribor on Tuesday night.

Jose Mourinho was facing the prospect of going to Old Trafford for the Super Sunday game without two of his three front-line strikers - leaving Didier Drogba, who has only just returned from an ankle problem, to lead the line.

Diego Costa has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem and Remy came off 16 minutes into the 6-0 win over the Slovenians after scoring the opening goal.

Remy said: "It was a bit stiff, and I didn't feel very comfortable. That's why I prefer to come off, if I'm not feeling very good it's better to leave for another player who is 100 per cent.

"We will see with the scan. I really hope it is not too bad. Fortunately I stopped playing because I felt something. I don't think it is too bad but I felt something. My groin.

"It's frustrating of course because I had a chance to play because Costa is injured but I am not afraid. I don't think it is really bad. We will check and I really hope to play again this weekend.

"It is a huge game but every game is tough. Especially this one because it is a big game against a good opponent but I will try to recover as quickly as possible."

Mourinho had previously declared that Drogba was not fit to play for 90 minutes, but the veteran striker - who scored a penalty against Maribor - inists he will be ready, if called upon.

"I'm happy with the minutes I played against Maribor," Drogba said. "There was no reaction for my ankle so I'm happy. It is up to the manager to decide.

"It was special to score for Chelsea again in my stadium. I always felt lucky when I had the chance to score here, to have that feeling again is great.

"It's a big coincidence scoring my first goal with a penalty after my last for the club was also a penalty in the Champions League final."
