Fabio Borini has said he wants to prove his worth and will ‘fight for his place’ at Liverpool after a spell on the sidelines has helped him toughen up.

Borini impressed on loan at Sunderland last season scoring seven times in the Premier League and three goals in the Capital One Cup, including the opener in the final against Manchester City.

The Italian admitted it has been tough to adapt to life on Merseyside while be confined to the bench, although he is now keen to show Liverpool what he can do.

The 23-year old is confident he can make a real impression at Anfield this season.

"It was difficult mentally to deal with the situation from one day to another but in my head it was clear that I wanted to stay here and fight for my place," Borini told Sky Sports News HQ.

"That’s what I have always said in the past and what I have always wanted to do and I am showing it every day in training.

"I have been at Sunderland and done well, so I think this is the year to make my point to stay here."

Borini was in Liverpool at the launch at of the Cycle for Freedom Ride to raise awareness and funds in a bid to combat human trafficking in the UK.
