Jonny Evans could be facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected ankle injury during Manchester United’s shock 5-3 defeat by Leicester City.

The Northern Ireland international was replaced by Chris Smalling after 30 minutes before reappearing pitch-side for the second half with a protective boot around his right leg.

Evans left the King Power Stadium on crutches and manager Louis van Gaal said: “I don't know how bad Evans is. We have to wait for a scan tomorrow but he is on crutches.”

As well as losing Evans to injury, van Gaal will also be without Tyler Blackett through suspension for Saturday's visit of West Ham after the young centre-back was shown a straight red card for the foul that led to Leonardo Ulloa's 83rd-minute penalty.

When asked about United’s defensive options ahead of the Hammers clash, the Dutchman told MUTV: “I think that (Luke) Shaw shall be fit enough to play. (Marcos) Rojo can play and (Chris) Smalling can play, so we can manage. But it's a thin choice.”
