Axed Fulham boss Felix Magath 'worst appointment in football', says Tony Gale

Former Fulham boss Felix Magath was the worst managerial appointment in football, according to Sky Sports' Tony Gale.

Gale, who made 277 appearances for Fulham between 1977-1984, told Sky Sports HQ's Morning View that he believes the German sent the club five years backwards in the seven months he was in charge.

''He’s come in with a hard-line, disciplinarian approach,'' he said.

''Obviously the owners were influenced from elsewhere. I wouldn’t have said it (the appointment) came from within Fulham, this is owners not knowing the game.

"Not knowing our game of football, not knowing a football club and that club has gone back five years in a short space of seven months.''

Magath leaves Fulham currently at the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship after he was appointed during the club's 2013/14 Premier League season.

Magath, who was appointed last season and leaves Fulham bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, won three Bundesliga titles in his managerial career but Gale insists he was not the man for Craven Cottage.

''I can’t think of a worse appointment in football, let alone at Fulham FC,'' he said.

''This guy, in seven months since he’s been at Fulham, has led to the influx of poor players and the going out of the club of decent players.

"I can’t think of a worse manager and a worse feeling around a football club. That is my football club and I’ve never seen the feeling as bad as it has been.''

Gale also added that he backs caretaker manager Kit Symons to be appointed the permanently.

''The Magath appointment was a shocker but Kit Symons is right under their nose. Appoint him now as permanent manager.

"He played for the club, knows the club inside out, he’s your man.''
