Sheffield United's Andy Butler has returned to Walsall on loan, just months after leaving them in the summer.

The 30-year-old defender called time on his successful three-and-a-half-year spell with the Saddlers to join fellow League One outfit Sheffield United at the end of last season but has failed to make the breakthrough at Bramall Lane and returns to the Banks's Stadium on a month's loan. "The opportunity has arisen for Andy to go out on loan and get some games, and we're only too happy to have him back here," said boss Dean Smith, who initially feared wages could be a stumbling block, on the club's official website. "He can help us get back on track and is someone who knows exactly how we work and will fit in straight away. "We were sad to see him leave during the summer but fully understood the reasons behind his decision. It hasn't quite happened for him yet at Sheffield United, but in the meantime we're delighted to be able to bring him in for a month. "His return will give us all a boost." Butler goes straight into the squad to play Preston in League One on Saturday.
