Lassana Diarra's proposed move to QPR is off - less than 48 hours after Harry Redknapp said the deal was done.
Diarra was in London at the weekend to finalise a transfer from Lokomotiv Moscow after agreement between the clubs was apparently reached.
But Sky sources understand a late hitch - as yet unexplained - means the deal will not now go through on deadline day.
The news will be a major disappointment to Redknapp, who signed the France midfielder during his time as Portsmouth boss and later sold him to Real Madrid for more than £20million.
Speaking on Saturday, Redknapp said: "He's signed. I think everything is agreed. He was down with the chairman last night and I am just delighted to have him.
"He's a top, top, top player."
