Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has urged striker Leon Clarke to be ready as his chance could come soon.
The 29-year-old re-joined his first club Wolves from Coventry City in January and played a part in their promotion to the Sky Bet Championship at the end of the 2013-14 season.
However, Clarke has struggled for playing time so far this campaign, making just two competitive appearances.
Nouha Dicko is Jackett’s first-choice striker, and the Wolves boss is also reportedly interested in signing Leicester City’s Chris Wood on loan next month.
Jackett holds interest in 20-year-old Patrick Bamford as well, but with the Chelsea forward looking set for a loan spell at Middlesbrough and Liam McAlinden struggling with a calf injury, Clarke could feature against Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Saturday.
“His aims are to try to get that number nine shirt and hang onto it,” Jackett told The Express & Star.
“I’ve picked Nouha Dicko four times now, but this group have started very well and justified a settled side.
“The minute that’s not the case then things will change, but when it does change you need the players that are capable of challenging those.
“International call-ups, fatigue and injuries can all happen along the way. They haven’t happened yet which is why we have a settled side.
“For all of those players out of the team, I say to them when you get your chance, be ready.”
