Beattie wants elusive win

James Beattie has called for Accrington to build on their first point of the season - despite blowing a goal lead lead against Luton.

Stanley drew 2-2 with Luton to end a three-game losing streak and climb off the bottom of League Two on Saturday. Goals from James Gray and Luke Joyce had put them ahead, before Luke Rooney and Jake Howells rescued Luton, and Beattie is now hunting a first win of the campaign. "It was a great start to the game and we talked, before the game, about how important it was to begin well. "However then we dropped off Luton and that's something I am trying to work with the lads about - the psychological side and how, even if you are leading 2-0, your mental attitude shouldn't change. "But we did drop off and allowed them space and that allowed Luton back into the game. John Still is an experienced manager and he changed things around and we know his teams will always be aggressive and on the front foot. "2-0 is one of those funny scorelines and, when a team comes back, then they usually go on and win the game so I think we showed a lot of resolve and determination in the second half. "We had to dig in and in the end we could have won the game. Now we have a brick in the wall and we have got to start adding the cement." Rooney pulled a goal back for the Hatters with a header on 32 minutes and Howells made it 2-2 with a free kick three minutes before the break. But Luton manager John Still was disappointed with his side's show depsite their comeback. He said: "If I am honest, we weren't good enough in the first half. We played better in the second half, we had more efforts on goal, but overall it wasn't good enough. "I am happy with how we responded and it shows we have something in the club that money can't buy in spirit and desire but I know we are better than how we played at Accrington. "It was to do with individuals not being ready for the game and I don't know why but it's down to me as manager to sort that out, that's my responsibility. "I have to decide what I need to do so it doesn't happen again." Breaking news, transfer gossip, line ups and goal alerts from your football club - delivered direct to your mobile.
