Transfer news: Marco van Ginkel to hold Chelsea talks

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel is in talks with the club about his future, but he is unlikely to be heading back to Holland on loan.

The 21-year-old Dutch international joined Chelsea last summer from Vitesse Arnhem and he made his debut in the opening game of the season - only to suffer a cruciate knee ligament injury soon after.

Van Ginkel returned to action late last season and has been involved with the first team throughout pre-season, but he was not included in the squad for the win at Burnley on Monday.

Now his agent has confirmed they are talking to the club about his future.

Karel Jansen told Algemeen Daglad: "We are in talks with Chelsea. Of course Marco wants to battle for his chances, but there must be a sort of perspective.

"Monday evening wasn't that pretty to see. We are now waiting for an answer on Chelsea and their vision."

But Jansen admitted that he does not think van Ginkel would return to his homeland and said: "Would the Eredivisie be an option? I don't think so personally, mainly as he has already played a part at a club of such a level."

PSV Eindhoven had been linked as a possible destination but their technical manager Marcel Brands has admitted that a move is unlikely.

Brands said: "I told his management a while ago [we could like him], but van Ginkel is part of a category of players who clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal loan out to other Premier League sides.

"Or otherwise to Germany, Spain or Italy. Despite the facts the guy is only 21. They feel the Netherlands has become too low level. The players who Vitesse get from Chelsea are just fitting in, they are still at the beginning on the ladder."
