Mikele Leigertwood looks set to be offered a contract at Nottingham Forest - if the midfielder can prove his fitness.
Leigertwood, released by Forest's Sky Bet Championship rivals Reading this summer, has been on trial at the City Ground and has impressed manager Stuart Pearce.
If he can overcome a hip problem sustained during the Reds' 1-0 win over West Brom and prove his fitness, Pearce will look to open negotiations with the 31-year-old over a deal.
"Mikele took a bang on the hip, so we hope it will just be a day or two for him," said Pearce after the Baggies game. "He could be vital to us. Hopefully he will recover from that injury and we can push forward with him.
"He is here on trial at the minute, but we hope he overcomes the injury. That is the only question mark with him at the minute, but I have been impressed with him on and off the pitch. If we can get him fit, then there will be something at this club for him.
"I have been very impressed with him. He conducts himself in the proper manner and is the type of person I would like to work with. Hopefully we can resolve something this week."
