Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew insists that Gabriel Obertan's bright displays in pre-season have put him back in contention within the squad.
Obertan was thought to be one of the fringe players that could be departing the club this summer given he was rarely involved last term, and the 25-year-old has not started a league game for nearly 18 months.
But the former Manchester United winger has impressed in pre-season and even had the Newcastle fans chanting his name against Schalke on Sunday.
"I was really pleased with our fans. It was nice to hear them singing Obertan’s name," said Pardew.
"He is another player that has worked hard this summer and you can see that.
"If he can take that into the season that will be a bonus for us because he’s been troubled with injuries.
"He was very good."
