Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis has backed new signing Fraizer Campbell to boost his side’s firepower this season after joining from Cardiff City.

Pulis guided Palace to an impressive 11th-place finish after replacing Ian Holloway during the last campaign, but only relegated duo Norwich and Cardiff scored less than their 33 Premier League goals.

It is now hoped that the arrival of Campbell, who has penned a three-year deal at Selhurst Park, will ease their problems in front of goal and he found the net nine times in all competitions during his one-year stint with in South Wales.

We need goals and people who can put the ball in the back of the net. It's an area we need to improve so we're pleased to sign Fraizer.

The 26-year-old became Palace’s first major signing of the summer for an undisclosed fee and Pulis believes that the striker offers exactly what he was looking for.

"We need goals and people who can put the ball in the back of the net. It's an area we need to improve so we're pleased to sign Fraizer," he said.

"He's got a good attitude and works hard. He will blend in well with the rest of the group."

Palace have seen a number of departures this summer, with the likes of Danny Gabbidon, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Dean Moxey and Jonathan Parr among those heading for the exit door as Pulis shapes his squad for the new season.

The Eagles have been linked with a host of players including Hull City defender Curtis Davies, while reports have suggested that Pulis is keen on signing Marseille winger Morgan Amalfitano, Stoke midfielder Steven N’Zonzi and Tottenham’s Lewis Holtby.
