Christian Eriksen is aware that Tottenham Hotspur have to fare better against 'big teams' if they are to challenge the top four.
Spurs endured a wretched time against the Premier League high-fliers last season, taking just one point off Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal as they scored twice and conceded 27 times.
Those struggles resulted in Spurs finishing 10 points adrift of the UEFA Champions League places and are now on to their third manager in the space of 12 months.
Mauricio Pochettino has been lured away from Southampton in the hope of bringing about a reversal in fortune, with Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood deemed unsuitable for the role.
He has inherited a squad capable of pushing for a seat at European football’s top table, but Eriksen – one of few positives to come out of the 2013/14 campaign – acknowledges that there is much work to be done.
The Denmark international said in The Sun: "We were not that good against the big teams last year.
"We did well against most of the other teams but against the top teams we were not very good and we were beaten pretty badly.
"I do not know why that was.
"At the start of the game you don't really think about it, you just think it is another game.
"But when you start to go three or four-nil down, you start to realise you are in a mega-big mess."
