Former Sunderland full-back Andrea Dossena is keeping his options open as he hunts for a new club, but believes the Premier League is the best competition in the world.

Dossena only moved to the Stadium of Light last summer but form and fitness contributed to a frustrating season and he was left surplus to requirements following the arrival of Marcos Alonso in January.

He has also played for Liverpool and has indicated that his preference would be to secure another deal in England, although he is not counting anything out.

Asked about his future, the Italian told tuttomercatoweb.com: “I hope to live a new experience abroad.

“The Premier League is the best league today, but I don't rule out other possibilities in other championships.”

Speaking about what went wrong for him last season, Alonso added: “I suffered an injury that put me at a disadvantage.

Then, in January, Marcos Alonso arrived from Fiorentina and the coach chose him instead of me. This is the reason why I have not played much.”
