Nejc Pecnik is open to the idea of returning to Britain and says it is flattering to be linked with a move to Celtic.

The Slovenia international currently plays for Red Star Belgrade and was voted their player of the year following an impressive 2013/14 campaign.

Pecnik’s performances have fuelled transfer speculation, with reports suggesting that Celtic are keeping a close eye on his progress.

The 28-year-old insists there have been no talks over his future but he would be interested in a move back to England or Scotland.

He previously played for Sheffield Wednesday and would love to prove that he could play in the Championship.

“It is flattering if Celtic are really interested in me,” the attacking midfielder told Sportal.

“Unfortunately I only read about this in media, I have not had any contact with the club.

“But I would be happy to return to Britain, even at Championship level.

“When I was at Sheffield, the manager gave up on me too soon. I'm sure that I could play a prominent role in this league.”
