Mousa Dembele is hoping that a fresh start for Tottenham Hotspur under Mauricio Pochettino will lead to success at White Hart Lane.

Pochettino has taken charge of Spurs this summer after the decision was taken to replace Tim Sherwood following a sixth-placed finish last season.

Dembele had injury problems last season and never really flourished under Sherwood, so he is looking forward to seeing what Pochettino will bring to the club.

He accepts that the new boss will have his own ideas but he is desperate to play a key role and is optimistic that Tottenham can kick on and achieve ‘big things’.

“I have heard a lot of good stories about Pochettino so I hope it will be a good appointment,” said Dembele in The Sun.

“The style Southampton played under him was very impressive. Let’s hope it is going to be the same at Tottenham as well.

Of course it’s good to have a change and a fresh start. We have a very good group of players and if we have a very good manager as well, then we can do big things.

“Of course it’s good to have a change and a fresh start. We have a very good group of players and if we have a very good manager as well, then we can do big things.

“I hope I can fit in well under the new manager but we have to know what his plans are first.”

Dembele is currently away with Belgium at the World Cup and is pleased to have got off to a winning start in Group H after coming from behind to beat Algeria 2-1 on Tuesday.

He said: “We started nervously against Algeria and it wasn’t easy when we went 1-0 down. It was difficult to find space.

“The coach told us at half-time that if it continued like this, we were going to try to beat them in the air and that is how it went.

“Russia will be a very different kind of game to Algeria but I am happy we won this one.”
