Former Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur defender Pascal Chimbonda is a free agent and is looking to return to French football.

The 35-year-old spent most of the 2013/14 campaign on the books at Carlisle United on a short-term contract.

He has been allowed to move on and is ready to call time on a nine-year stint in Britain.

During that time Chimbonda has graced the Premier League with Spurs, Wigan, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers as well as the Football League with Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster and Carlisle.

His efforts were rewarded with a solitary cap for France in 2006, with Chimbonda having previously turned out for Guadeloupe – the country of his birth.

He has no intention of bringing the curtain down on a career which also included League Cup success in 2008, but is looking to head back to mainland Europe - where he has represented Le Havre and Bastia in the past.

Chimbonda told L’Equipe: “France is my priority.

“If I can find a good project with a good environment at a French club, I would favour such a choice.

“I am fit and still have the desire.”
