Freiburg have made it clear that they want Matthias Ginter to stay at the club for at least another season.

Ginter has attracted attention from a host of clubs and Borussia Dortmund were thought to be in pole position to secure his signature.

The 20-year-old centre-back stated this week that he would like the situation to be resolved before Germany’s opening World Cup game against Portugal on Sunday, declaring that he was only prepared to move to Dortmund and would not want to go anywhere else.

However, Freiburg chairman Fritz Keller has ruled out a summer departure and told Ginter that he should spend one more year with the cub before thinking about his next step.

Keller told Deutsche Presseagentur: "Matthias will play for SC Freiburg also next season, this is what we have told him already.

“It's about our responsibility regarding a young player of 20 years of age.

“It's best for everyone that he stays one more year at SC Freiburg.”

Meanwhile, Freiburg have confirmed that young forward Maximilian Philipp has signed a professional contract to stay with the club until 2016.

Philipp told Freiburg’s official website: "I am very proud to be a player of SC Freiburg, happy to have the chance to play for a club that offers young players top circumstances to progress.”
