Northampton Town have announced the signing of striker Marc Richards from League Two champions Chesterfield.

The 31-year-old, who scored eight goals in 46 appearances this season, has penned a three-year deal with Chris Wilder's Cobblers. Richards, whose last goal came in January, spent two years with Northampton between 2003 and 2005 and scored 11 times in 37 league starts. "He's a fantastic signing for the football club," Wilder told the club's official website. "I think it is a good fit both ways. "He is a proven goalscorer at this level and has a championship medal under his belt. He has scored goals regularly and we are really looking forward to working with him."
