Oldham have confirmed that defender Cliff Byrne has left Boundary Park by mutual agreement.

The 31-year-old joined the Latics in 2012 after a lengthy spell at Scunthorpe and made 41 appearances in all competitions. Oldham manager Lee Johnson told the club's official website: "Cliff has been exemplary during his time here as a player and it shouldn't go unnoticed how he helped me by doing an excellent job, when I first joined the club, during our fight for survival. "Everyone at Oldham Athletic FC wishes Cliff well in his playing career and what will undoubtedly be a future coaching career." Byrne added: "I have really enjoyed my time at Boundary Park, it's been terrific from the day I came in. "I would like to thank the fans for their support, they have always been really good to me, and I hope they appreciated my commitment to them."
