Hull City manager Steve Bruce will 'ask the question' if the right players become available during the winter window.
The dawn of a new year means Premier League managers are free to dip back into the transfer market.
It is expected to be a busy few weeks, with bosses up and down the country hunting for the fabled 'final piece of the jigsaw'.
Hull are looking for additions who can help to consolidate their top flight standing, with Bruce prepared to spend if necessary.
He is already being linked with the likes of West Bromwich Albion striker Shane Long - who he first chased over the summer - and Celtic forward Georgios Samaras.
On his plans for January, Bruce said: "We are in a fantastic position in the league thanks to the efforts of the current squad.
"There has been a real hunger about the boys here and they are fighting so hard for each other.
"But if there is anybody out there who I think can substantially improve us, then I will ask the question."
