Former Peterborough striker Dave Hibbert has set his sights on moving into coaching after being forced to hang up his boots early.
Hibbert was sadly forced to announce his retirement back in April at the age of 27 after failing to recover from a serious knee injury.
Hibbert has taken his first foray into coaching after linking up with old club Shrewsbury working with the club's youngsters alongside youth academy manager Wayne Evans.
Hibbert, who is currently taking his UEFA B Licence, is thankful to Shrewsbury and Evans for giving him the opportunity to gain some experience as he looks to take the next step in his career after seeing his playing career so cruelly cut short.
"Being forced to retire came as a massive shock," Hibbert told Sky Sports. "It was really tough to take at the time and still is now.
"But I am looking forward now and I am thankful to Wayne [Evans] and Shrewsbury for giving me the chance to coach their youth side.
"I am working with the strikers and it is great to get involved in Wayne's sessions.
"Wayne has a great record at helping bring through young players like Jon Taylor, Connor Goldson, Tom Bradshaw and Kaiman Anderson and it is great for my education to learn from him.
"He is a really good bloke to work under and he has been a big help to me so far.
"I see myself going into coaching or management as I was forced to retire so young.
"I have started coaching young as I see that as the next step in my career and I have just started taking my UEFA B Licence."
Input
Hibbert played under the likes of Billy Davies and Darren Ferguson during his career and he believes he has learned a lot from his former managers that he can take on board for his own future coaching ambitions.
"I have been fortunate enough to play under some very good managers during my career and that can only help me in my career," added Hibbert.
"Having worked with the likes of Billy Davies and Darren Ferguson I can take forward some of their ways of working and use them in my own style of coaching.
"I have a long way to go, but I am determined to do everything I can to learn and improve."
