Werder Bremen have confirmed Nigeria international striker Joseph Akpala has joined Turkish side Kardemir Karabukspor on a season-long loan.
Akpala only signed a four-year contract with Werder 12 months ago after arriving from Club Brugge, but he struggled to make an impact in the Bundesliga.
He trained with Championship side Reading earlier this summer, but was unable to secure a move to the Madejski Stadium.
The 27-year-old will now spend the campaign in Turkey and Werder's general manager Thomas Eichin hopes Akpala will benefit from the move.
"Joseph Akpala has great skill, but so far he has not been able to break into our first team regularly," Eichin told Deutsche Presseagentur.
"Now, he will get the chance to play regular first-team football in the Turkish league. There, he can pick up the self-confidence every striker needs."
