Bayer Leverkusen executive Wolfgang Holzhauser has confirmed the club are in talks with Hugo Almeida over a move to the BayArena before the transfer window closes.
He admitted that Besiktas striker Almeida is one of the players the club are talking to in an attempt to provide extra firepower alongside last season's Bundesliga top scorer Stefan Kiessling.
The Portugal international is in contact with Leverkusen over a move after former striker Eren Derdiyok rejoined the club on loan from Hoffenheim.
Holzhauser told the Cologne Express: "We are looking to add a prolific striker as we are in talks with a few players and clubs.
"Hugo Almeida and Eren Derdiyok are two of the players we have been in touch with."
Swiss striker Derdiyok only left Leverkusen last season to join Hoffenheim but the former FC Basel star has become surplus to requirements and has now rejoined Leverkusen on loan.
