Transfer news: Neil Alexander seals Crystal Palace move and looks forward to new campaign

Goalkeeper Neil Alexander has sealed a free transfer move to Crystal Palace and admits he cannot wait for the season to start.

Alexander concedes it was a wrench to leave Rangers, where he had spent five years since signing from Championship side Ipswich. During that time he has seen the club go from Scottish champions to the bottom division following the club's much publicised financial meltdown. He was prepared to take a pay-cut in order to stay at Ibrox and help their battle to rise up the leagues again but says the terms he was offered were just not good enough. He added: "To be honest I'd rather still be at Rangers but I'm so pleased to be given this chance and I'm going to enjoy it. "I'm disappointed it didn't work out for me at Rangers. I was desperate to stay but the contract offer was just not acceptable. I deserved better. "I'm still a Gers fan at heart and hope they win League One and then the Championship to get back to the top division. "I have a lot of good friends at the club and wish them every success in the years ahead. "It was my dream to complete the whole journey back to the top but that's not to be."
