Barcelona have called an unexpected press conference, with coach Tito Vilanova expected to step down due to ill-health.
Club president Sandro Rosell and director of football Andoni Zubizarreta
will address the media at 7.30pm BST on Friday evening, the Catalans announced on their official website.
Vilanova only took over from Pep Guardiola last summer but his tenure has been overshadowed by health concerns.
The former Barclelona B boss missed a chunk of the season after undergoing treatment in the United States for a cancer relapse.
He had orginally been diagnosed with parotid gland cancer in November 2011.
Vilanova is understood to have suffered a further setback, with the challenge of leading one of Europe's powerhouses deemed too detrimental to his condition.
Reports in Spain suggest Joan Francesc Ferrer, known as Rubi, could replace Vilanova in a caretaker capacity.
Rubi joined Barca's coaching staff last month as an assistant to Vilanova and Jordi Roura, who took charge of the first team when Vilanova was absent from December to March last season.
