Wigan are lining up a move for FC Utrecht striker Jacob Mulenga, Sky Sports understands.
Nottingham Forest have been credited with an interest in the Zambian attacker, but it appears Wigan are leading the race for the 29-year-old.
Utrecht are thought to be willing to cash in on Mulenga, with the player having only a year to run on his current contract.
Mulenga, who is thought to have rejected offers from Turkey and Israel this summer, netted 14 goals for Utrecht in the Eredivisie last season.
Wigan boss Owen Coyle has previously admitted he was hoping to bring in three or four new forwards this summer after seeing Arouna Kone, Mauro Boselli and Franco Di Santo all leave the DW Stadium.
Coyle has already signed Grant Holt and Marc-Antoine Fortune, and he is now weighing up a move for Mulenga.
