Sky Sports understands that Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks with former Sunderland defender Matthew Kilgallon.
The 29-year-old is available as a free agent following his release by the Black Cats.
Kilgallon spent three years at the Stadium of Light, but struggled with injury and found first team opportunities hard to come by as a result.
He is now looking to open a new chapter in his career and is closing on a switch to Ewood Park.
Blackburn are looking to reinforce a squad which struggled to get to grips with life in the Championship last season and feel Kilgallon will be a useful addition.
