Bayer Leverkusen have rejected an enquiry from Fiorentina for Stefan Kiessling and plan to open talks over a new contract for the striker in the summer.

Kiessling has scored 23 goals in the Bundesliga this season and recently denied reports of a move to Borussia Dortmund as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

The Germany international, who joined Leverkusen in 2006 from Nurnberg, has now emerged as a target for Serie A side Fiorentina.

However, Leverkusen's general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser has knocked back the approach and is determined to keep Kiessling at the club.

"We have turned down an official enquiry from Fiorentina for the services of Kiessling," Holzhauser told Express. "We turned this down immediately.

"Stefan Kiessling is under contract until June 2015. We plan to sit down and discuss a new contract this summer.

"I would like to see him retire from the game as a Bayer Leverkusen player one time in the future.

"We cannot afford to lose Stefan Kiessling if we want to have a successful next season."
