Reading striker Noel Hunt remains hopeful of extending his current deal at the club, which runs out at the end of the season.
The Republic of Ireland star has been in talks with Royals' boss Brian McDermott about extending his four-and-a-half-year stay at the Madejski Stadium.
The player has netted four times in 16 appearances this campaign, despite playing a supporting role to Pavel Pogrebnyak and Adam Le Fondre.
Hunt, 30, is aware that his chances of first-team football will be limited if he does pen a new deal, but is keen to remain in Berkshire.
He told the Reading Post: "The gaffer spoke briefly about it the other day so hopefully we can start talks.
"I'll do whatever the manager wants me to do to keep this team in the league. I understand what the story is at the moment."
