Marseille coach Elie Baup is hoping to use the money from Loic Remy's impending sale to Newcastle United to sign "one or two players".
The 26-year-old French striker has been given permission to talk to the North East club ahead of a proposed to £8.3million move.
Baup revealed Marseille were resigned to losing Remy some time ago and has already lined up potential replacements.
He said: "We knew for some time he was close to leaving. He has started negotiations with his future club.
"We have to be ready to face that situation. We will see if it will be sorted out in the coming hours.
"If he would leave, there would be arrivals of one or two players - we will see."
Marseille are reported to be interested in signing French international midfielder Moussa Sissoko from Toulouse, while Nancy's attacking full-back Djamel Bakar is also on their radar.
