Sao Paulo have handed a two-year contract to Lucio a day after he was released by Italian giants Juventus.

The Brazil international negotiated a termination of his contract at Juve just five months after moving to Turin as a free agent.

With things having not gone according to plan for him with the Serie A champions, Lucio decided to look elsewhere.

A return to his homeland was widely touted, and the 34-year-old has taken the decision to head back to South America.

Sao Paulo are delighted to have secured his services, with Lucio boasting a World Cup winners' medal and a UEFA Champions League crown on his enviable CV.

"Lucio is an old dream for Sao Paulo," director of football Adalberto Baptista told the club's official website.

"In July we came close to signing him, but it was not possible.

"Thankfully things worked out this time and he will add quality, experience and leadership to our squad."
