Carlos Tevez insists the Manchester City players believe they can still qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

City must beat Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night to have any chance of escaping from Group D.

"The players are all convinced it is still possible," Tevez said. "As long as it is still mathematically possible, why not?

"As long as we go out determined to win the last two games, it is just a case of seeing how the other results turn out."

Tevez finally ended a barren run of eight games without a goal recently and was outstanding in the 5-0 demolition of Aston Villa last weekend, scoring two and setting up two more.

It is not certain he will start in Roberto Mancini's team on Wednesday night but Tevez says he is happy to play his part, whether in the starting XI or off the bench.

The Argentina star said: "It is all about the team working together as a whole.

"I wouldn't want to put added pressure on myself to think I am going to make the difference.

"It is all about working together and if we really want to take this game forward and grab it by the scruff of the neck, it has got to be a group effort."
