Sky Bet put Melbourne in pole position to sign Beckham

Sky Bet make Melbourne Heart 2/1 favourites to be David Beckham's next club after he announced he was leaving Los Angeles Galaxy. The former England captain will end his six-year spell in LA after next month's MLS Cup as he looks to "experience one last challenge" in his playing career. Football Federation Australia last week claimed they had been approached by the former Manchester United star's camp with a view to him spending a short stint in the A-League, though his spokesman described that as "rubbish". However Melbourne Heart CEO Scott Munn has since said: "We're putting forward an offer, it's compelling and the opportunity is here for him to come here. That is absolutely legitimate." Melbourne are Sky Bet's favourites to lure Beckham Down Under, with their fellow A-League side Perth Glory third in the market at 7/1. New York Red Bulls split the pair at 4s. Elsewhere, it's 12/1 the 37-year-old returns to AC Milan and 14s he reunites with Sir Alex Ferguson by re-signing for first club Manchester United. And with Snoop Dogg having raised the prospect of a takeover of Celtic - and a subsequent discussion with Beckham about moving to Parkhead - it's a 16/1 chance that the Glasgow club is his next destination. Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: "Melbourne Heart are keen to sign Beckham with a move to Australia widely reported. "Some may think this is just an attempt to further boost his public image but his availability has got clubs around the world on red alert."
