Eintracht Frankfurt striker Rob Friend has told the club he is happy to run down his contract and pick up the money after being informed he is surplus to requirements.
The former Canada international has a year-and-a-half remaining on his current deal but does not feature in the plans of manager Armin Veh.
Friend claims he has had the chance to move abroad on a free transfer but he is in no rush and is instead content to collect his salary at Commerzbank-Arena.
He told Bild: "Eintracht should forget about getting rid of me just for the sake of saving money.
"I have the desire to respect my existing contract. I am already 31 years of age. I could have joined clubs in foreign countries recently.
"But I definitely would have earned less money then, even though I was about to be granted a free transfer."
Friend added: "Eintracht manager Armin Veh has told me I am a surplus. This is clearly disappointing."
